Hirakud Dam, built across the Mahanadi River in Odisha, is one of the longest dams in the world. It was built for flood control, irrigation, and power generation. Sutlej has Bhakra Dam, Tungabhadra has a dam in Karnataka/Andhra, and Kosi is in Bihar but has different embankments.
