J.J. Thomson discovered the electron in 1897 through cathode ray tube experiments, for which he received the Nobel Prize. Rutherford discovered the atomic nucleus, Chadwick discovered the neutron, and Dalton proposed the atomic theory but did not discover subatomic particles.
