In 1529, Babar's easternmost extension was Patna (then called Azimabad) after his victory at the Battle of Ghaghra against the Afghans. This battle marked the eastern limit of Babar's conquests in the Gangetic plain, though control beyond this was tenuous and soon receded after his death.
