Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema, launched the Hindustan Cinema Films Company in 1917. This was after his successful film 'Raja Harishchandra' (1931). The other companies listed - Kohinoor, Imperial, and Navketan - were established by other filmmakers in later years.
