Earth reaches aphelion, its farthest point from the Sun, around July 4th each year. At this position, Earth is approximately 152 million kilometers from the Sun, compared to about 147 million kilometers at perihelion in early January. Despite being farther away, July is summer in the Northern Hemisphere because axial tilt is the dominant factor controlling seasons, not distance.
