Both Aryabhatta (the mathematician who calculated the value of pi and proposed that Earth rotates on its axis) and Varahamihira (the astronomer-astrologer who wrote the Pancha-Siddhantika) lived during the 5th-6th century CE, which falls within the Gupta dynasty period. The Gupta era (320-550 CE) is often called the Golden Age of ancient India for its achievements in science, mathematics, and arts. The Cholas were a later medieval dynasty (9th-13th century), the Mauryas ruled earlier (3rd century BCE), and the Mughals arrived much later (16th century).
