"Where Eagles Dare" (1967) is a WWII adventure thriller by Alistair MacLean about an Allied mission to rescue an American general from a Nazi fortress. MacLean was a Scottish author known for taut adventure thrillers often set during wartime. Frederick Forsyth's works came later and focus more on political/corporate intrigue.
