The Panama Canal connects the Atlantic Ocean (via the Caribbean Sea) to the Pacific Ocean. This artificial waterway was built to eliminate the need for ships to travel around the southern tip of South America (Cape Horn), dramatically reducing travel time and distance between the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of the Americas.
