Measures of dispersion describe how spread out data is: examples include range, mean deviation, standard deviation, and quartile deviation. Skewness, however, measures the asymmetry or shape of the distribution, not its spread. A highly skewed distribution can have low dispersion, and a symmetric one can have high dispersion, making skewness a measure of shape rather than dispersion.
