The London Underground, the world's first underground railway, opened to the public on January 10, 1863. The initial line ran between Paddington (Bishop's Road) and Farringdon Street, covering a distance of 3.75 miles. 1860 is too early, while 1865 and 1871 are years after the actual opening.
