Consideration is the essential element of a valid contract - something of value that moves from the promisee to the promisor. 'Something in return' best captures this concept because consideration must be something, not nothing, and it must be given in return for the promise. 'Anything in return' is too broad - consideration must have some value in the eyes of the law. 'Everything in return' suggests complete equivalence which is not required. 'Nothing in return' contradicts the basic requirement that a bargain must involve exchange.
