In a mammoth attempt to move domestic consumers to CFLs, India has registered the world’s largest carbon credit project, the Bachat Lamp Yojana (BLY) under the UNFCCC’s Clean Development Mechanism project. The BLY is expected to lead to the potential reduction of 6000 MW of electricity demand, and prevent 40 million tonnes of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere.
