Montreal is a famous city in Canada. It lies in the Canadian province of Quebec. As a matter of fact, it is the largest city in Canada and the ninth largest city in North America. Its original name is Ville-Marie or City of Mary. It is named after Mount Royal, the triple-peaked hill in the heart of the city. It boasts of an estimated population of around 4.1 million. Its land area is about 4,259 square kilometers. The official language of Montreal is French and 56.9% of the population speaks this language, while merely 18.6% people speak English and 19.8% people speak other languages.
