They are thought to be sacred by many Himalayan people and were first discovered by a E. P. Lee, a naturalist. They are found in the dense forest dominated by sal trees. These are medium-sized langurs with deep cream and golden colour in the back. The golden langur has a black face and a long tail which measures approximately fifty centimetres. It is exclusively vegetarian and feeds on leaves, buds, flowers and fruits of several species of trees. It is an endangered animal which is seriously at the risk of becoming extinct with a total population of only one thousand in the year 2000. Their habitat has been in constant danger due to human activity.
