Barack Obama became the first African-American President of the United States, inaugurated on January 20, 2009. He won the 2008 presidential election against Republican nominee John McCain (misspelled as 'Maccaine' in option). Obama served two terms as President from 2009-2017. John Kennedy was the first Catholic President, and Sara Palin was McCain's running mate as Vice Presidential candidate in 2008.
