The tiger is the national animal of India majorly known as Bengal Tiger. Besides India they are also found in China and Indonesia. It prefers places with humid evergreen forests. They are slightly larger than the lion and are good swimmers. They are striped with short hair. Their coat is yellow to light orange with stripes ranging from dark brown to black. They have a total average length varying from two-hundred and forty to three-hundred and ten centimeters. They are usually carnivores with canine teeth which are well formed and are usually used to feed on prey like water buffalo, swamp deer and other known forest animals. It has been listed as an endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Various conservation efforts have been taken up by the government to preserve the tiger population. The approach has been successful in reducing poaching, restoring habitats, and creating a local constituency for conservation.
