Certain frog species, particularly wood frogs, have evolved remarkable freeze tolerance through cryoprotectant mechanisms. They produce high concentrations of glucose and urea that act as antifreeze, preventing ice crystal formation in cells. This allows them to survive being frozen solid during winter and thaw back to active life in spring. Humans, giraffes, and rats cannot survive freezing temperatures.
