The astronomer who argued first that the sun, and not the earth, is the center of the solar system

Nicolaus Copernicus formulated the heliocentric model in the 16th century, proposing that the Sun is the center of the solar system. While ancient Indian astronomer Aryabhatta had earlier described a similar model, Copernicus was the first in modern European astronomy to systematically argue for heliocentrism.
