The first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896 in Athens, Greece. These games revived the ancient Olympic tradition and featured 14 nations competing in 43 events. Athens was chosen as the birthplace of the original Olympics, and Pierre de Coubertin's vision became reality. The other options are all subsequent Olympic Games: 1906 Athens (interim games), 1912 Stockholm, and 1908 London.
