The standard 3.5-inch floppy disk, introduced by Sony in 1981, had a formatted capacity of 1.44 MB (1,474,560 bytes). This became the most common floppy format. Earlier 5.25-inch floppies held 360 KB or 1.2 MB, and Zip drives held 100 MB, but 3.5-inch floppies were never 0.5 MB or 10 MB.
