What do you use to check for line-voltage sags?
-
Polarity tester
-
Line monitor
-
LAN analyzer
-
Breakout box
A line monitor is the specialized tool for detecting and recording voltage sags (drops below normal levels). Polarity testers check wiring configuration, LAN analyzers examine network traffic, and breakout boxes test cable pinouts - only line monitors specifically measure voltage quality over time.
The correct tool is a line monitor. A line voltage monitor plugs into an AC line and records disturbances — spikes, sags/dips, swells, and outages — by time, magnitude, and duration, making it the right instrument for detecting line-voltage sags. A polarity tester, by contrast, only verifies that an outlet's hot/neutral/ground wiring is correct; it does not track voltage fluctuations over time.
