Dushanbe is the capital and largest city of Tajikistan, located in the Hissar Valley. It became the capital when Tajikistan was a Soviet republic and retained that status after independence in 1991. The other options are capitals of different countries: Ashgabat (Turkmenistan), Funafuti (Tuvalu), and Mbabana (Eswatini/Swaziland).
