The Atacama Desert in northern Chile is the driest nonpolar desert on Earth. Some weather stations in the Atacama have never received rain, and parts of the region may have gone without rain for up to 40 million years. The Egyptian and Peruvian locations listed, while arid, do receive measurable rainfall.
