TADA stands for Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act, which was an Indian law passed in 1985 to combat terrorism in Punjab. It provided special powers to law enforcement and allowed for detention without trial for up to one year. The Act was allowed to lapse in 1995 due to concerns about misuse and human rights violations.
