Puncak Jaya (also known as Carstensz Pyramid) in Papua province, Indonesia, is the highest mountain peak in Oceania at 4,884 meters (16,024 feet). While Mt. Kosciusko (2,228 m) is the highest peak in mainland Australia and Mt. Victoria (4,072 m) is in Papua New Guinea, Puncak Jaya's elevation exceeds these. Mt. Cook (3,724 m) in New Zealand's South Island, while significant, is not the highest in the Oceania region. Puncak Jaya is part of the Sudirman Range in the western central highlands of Papua.
