The name 'Mizoram' is derived from 'Mizo' (the people) and 'ram' (land), meaning 'land of the Mizos' or 'land of the highlanders'. The Mizos are hill-dwelling people, hence 'highlanders'. Manipur means 'land of jewels', Gujarat comes from 'Gurjaratra' (land of Gujjars), and Daman and Diu have Portuguese-origin names.
