Haridwar is an ancient city and important Hindu pilgrimage site located in the state of Uttarakhand (formerly Uttaranchal). It is situated in the foothills of the Shivalik range and is one of the seven holiest places in Hinduism. The city is known for the Ganges river exiting the mountains here.
