B Correct answer
Explanation

Siraj-ud-Daulah, the Nawab of Bengal, captured Kolkata (then Calcutta) from the British in the famous Siege of Calcutta in June 1756. The city was later recaptured in January 1757 by Robert Clive (and Admiral Watson) after the British organized an expedition from Madras. This led to the decisive Battle of Plassey later in 1757. Mir Jafar was Siraj-ud-Daulah's commander who betrayed him at Plassey.
