The microscope is credited to Zacharias Janssen (also spelled Zacharias Jansen or Hans Janssen), a Dutch spectacle-maker who invented the first compound microscope around 1590. His father Hans likely assisted. Note that 'z zasen' appears to be a garbled version of 'Zacharias Janssen'.
