Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar formulated the Black Hole Theory, showing that stars above a certain mass (Chandrasekhar limit, 1.4 solar masses) would collapse into black holes. He won the 1983 Nobel Prize in Physics for this work. Hargobind Khorana won the Nobel for DNA research, C.V. Raman for the Raman Effect, and Ramanujan was a mathematician.
