The transistor was invented in 1947 at Bell Labs by three scientists: John Bardeen, Walter Brattain, and William Shockley. They shared the 1956 Nobel Prize in Physics for this invention, which revolutionized electronics. Thomas Edison worked much earlier on light bulbs and other inventions, predating the transistor era.
