Most gemstones contain several elements. The exception?

Diamond is the exception because it is composed almost entirely of a single element - carbon, arranged in a crystal lattice structure. Other gemstones like emerald (beryl with trace chromium/vanadium) and aquamarine (beryl) contain multiple elements. Pearl is organic calcium carbonate with multiple compounds. This makes diamond unique among major gemstones in its elemental purity.
